PlexUtil Change Log (Introduced 2/13/06)

PlexUtil (with an 'e') replaces the now-obsolete PlxUtil (without an 'e') program. PlxUtil will no longer be supported. PlexUtil contains all of the important functionality of the old PlxUtil, with an entirely different and much-improved user interface that makes it useful as a general data file browser.

Note: PlexUtil does not contain functionality to create Plx0 files for Offline Sorter, as this capability has been built into Offline Sorter since version 2.8.0.

At this time no documentation is available for PlexUtil, but the operation of the program is quite intuitive. Selecting any .PLX or .DDT file in the file browser on the left will show a wealth of information about the file on the right-hand panes. A browser pane is available that shows the contents of the file block-by-block.

The old PlxUtil operations are available via the Action menu or the buttons on the large toolbar. Pressing any of these buttons will bring up a series of wizard-type dialogs to walk you through the operation.

• The Scan action will check the file for anomalies, and in many cases offer to repair the file.
• The Subset action will allow you to make a new data file that is a subset of the original file. You can specify the subset in terms of channels or by time.
• The Split action will allow making several files from one. You can split by channels, by time, by size, or by Frames.
• The Convert action allows writing the continuous data in a .PLX file to a .DDT file. Other conversions will be available in future releases.
• The Re-order action will put the data blocks in a .PLX file into strict timestamp order.
• The Merge action will merge several files (selected by Ctrl-clicking in the file browser) into one.
• Other useful functions include the ability to launch Offline Sorter or NeuroExplorer (or other tools of your choosing) on the currently selected file via the Tools menu.
